When it comes to lunching in South Pasadena, Fiore and their bread come first in mind. That heaven baked soft dough works with all kinds of tender proteins, especially with moist chicken breasts (a must try!) and PB&J. The best part is, you get to steal the-ought-to-be-secret bread recipe by taking their Tuesday evening class.

South Pasadena: Firefly Bistro
Like its name may suggest, with charming lights and vines covered walls, Firefly wants to lure you into its airy backyard patio in a charming block of south Pasadena.
While the space is dim enough to pull off a first date, this is a place for groups. The portions are generous and the dishes bold with flavor.
Some of the highlights of the night were:
-Spicy Butternut Squash Doughnuts with toasted walnut-madras curry dip & oregano honey (8.5)
-Sweet and Sour Braised Bacon with black lentils, chard, pears & basil (10.5)
-Firefly Fries with marjoram, smoked paprika & creamy red pepper jam (8)
-BBQ Lamb Shank with cheddar-rosemary grits & pole bean-fall tomato salad (27.5)
-Rosemary Roasted Game Hen with duck fat crisped parsnip, confit fennel & spinach, chervil, tart apple and sauterne (20)
-Juniper Grilled Pork Chop with caramelized shallot mashed sweet potatoes, Brussels sprouts and black olive pan jus (22.5)
-Preserved Tomato Risotto with crispy Beech mushroom, goat cheese, seared black kale and basil puree (18)
-Chocolate Hazelnut Cake with whipped cream and sea salted- smoked hazelnut chocolate bark (7.5)
The service was great and it doesn't hurt for the friendly owner occasionally checking on the tables and giving good smiles.
Check out Firefly if you seek American comfort food with tasty twists. These will last you a good while.
